About Us
La Lesbienne is a journal documenting lesbian history, politics, culture, literature and research while building a permanent archive for future generations.
Founded in response to the absence of lesbian-specific publications, La Lesbienne seeks to create a permanent intellectual and cultural home for lesbian thought. Lesbian representation is often invisible, marginalised, or reduced to stereotypes. We give the experiences, histories, and contributions of lesbians the rigorous documentation, analysis, and discussion that they deserve.
Our mission is twofold: to increase the visibility of lesbian lives and to build an enduring archive of lesbian knowledge. We believe that one of the greatest challenges facing lesbian communities is invisibility - not only in popular culture, but also within academia, historical records, and public discourse. By collecting, publishing, and preserving lesbian scholarship and commentary, we aim to ensure that lesbian experiences are recorded, understood, and accessible to future generations.
Our commitment is to maintain the intellectual standards of a respected academic journal while remaining accessible to a broad readership. We believe that serious engagement with lesbian history, culture, and politics should be available to anyone seeking to better understand lesbian lives and experiences.
